What Hot Yoga actually is

Hot Yoga covers any yoga taught in a heated room, from a flowing hot Vinyasa to a fixed hot 26 sequence. Temperature and humidity vary a lot between studios, so the room spec matters as much as the style label. A studio running 105 degrees with high humidity is a very different class from one at 90 degrees.

  • Heated room, typically 90 to 105 degrees
  • Towel and extra water required
  • Large studio rooms and larger class sizes
  • Often the anchor format on a studio schedule

How much does Hot Yoga cost?

$20-$35 per class is the national range. Below is the standard group drop in at studios teaching it, city by city, and when we last checked.

Typical is the median, not the average, so one high priced studio cannot drag a city upward. A city appears once at least two of its studios have published a price, and the cities with the most priced studios come first. A drop in is each studio's standard group class price, so where a studio teaches several styles it may not be the Hot Yoga price.

Is Hot Yoga right for you?

The honest version. Every class style suits some people and not others, and a directory that pretends otherwise wastes your first class fee.

It suits you if

  • People who want to sweat and feel the practice open up sooner
  • Anyone in a cold climate who struggles to warm up
  • Practitioners who like a predictable, repeatable class

Look elsewhere if

  • Anyone pregnant, unless a clinician has cleared it
  • People with blood pressure or heart conditions, without medical advice
  • Anyone who finds heat makes them push past a safe range

Before you book

What happens in your first class

  1. 1Hydrate through the day, not just before class
  2. 2Bring a mat towel. A normal mat becomes slippery within minutes
  3. 3Sit out a posture whenever you need to. Leaving the room is discouraged

What to ask before you pay

  • Ask the temperature and the humidity. Ninety degrees and 105 are different classes
  • Check whether mats and towels are included or rented
  • Ask what happens if you feel unwell, which tells you a lot about the studio

Ranges are national guides for each style, not one studio's price.

Hot Yoga questions

How hot is a hot Yoga class?

Most hot Yoga rooms sit between 90 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Bikram and hot 26 rooms run at the top of that range with added humidity, while a hot Vinyasa room is often closer to 90 to 95 degrees. Studio listings on this site show the room temperature where the studio has confirmed it.

What should I bring to hot Yoga?

A mat towel, a hand towel and more water than you expect to drink. Most studios rent or sell mats and towels, but the rental fees add up quickly, so bringing your own is cheaper after a few visits.

Should I eat before a hot class?

Not much, and not in the hour before. Most regulars eat something light two to three hours ahead and drink steadily through the day rather than downing a bottle in the car park. Turning up dehydrated is what makes a first hot class miserable.

Where can I take Hot Yoga classes?

154 studios in 118 cities list Hot Yoga. The most are in New York, NY (9), Naples, FL (5) and Bakersfield, CA (3). Each city page lists every studio teaching it there.

What do studios listed here actually charge?

The median drop in price across the 34 studios here that publish one is $25, and the middle half charge $20 to $30. That is each studio's standard group drop in, so at a studio teaching several styles it may not be what a Hot Yoga class costs there.

Why compare Hot Yoga here

  • Prices carry a date

A studio price shows the date it was last checked wherever we hold one. Stale is stated, never hidden.

  • Verification is four states

Listed, claimed, verified and enhanced. We never blur them into one green tick.

  • Equipment aware

Class size is capped by machine count, which is why the apparatus in the room is listed, not just the class name.

  • Position is never sold

Order is verification, freshness and rating. No studio can buy its way up this list.
