What Vinyasa Yoga actually is

Vinyasa links each movement to a breath and flows continuously rather than holding postures. Sequences change class to class, so two Vinyasa classes at the same studio can feel very different depending on the teacher. It is the most common format on American studio schedules.

  • Continuous breath linked movement
  • Sequence varies by teacher
  • Moderate to strong pace
  • Widely available across all price points

What Vinyasa Yoga costs

$18-$32 per class is the national range. Below is what studios on this site actually charge, and when we last checked.

Full price guide

Not enough studios have published a vinyasa yoga price for us to show a city range yet. A single studio's price is not a range, so we are not going to print one. $18-$32 per class is the national guide.

Is Vinyasa Yoga right for you?

The honest version. Every class style suits some people and not others, and a directory that pretends otherwise wastes your first class fee.

It suits you if

  • People who want to move continuously rather than hold postures
  • Anyone who finds a slower class hard to stay present in
  • Practitioners with some experience of the basic postures

Look elsewhere if

  • Complete beginners, who will spend the class watching everyone else
  • Anyone with a wrist or shoulder injury, given the volume of weight bearing

Before you book

What happens in your first class

  1. 1Take a beginner or slow flow class first if you have never practised
  2. 2Tell the teacher about wrist, shoulder or lower back issues before you start
  3. 3Expect the sequence to change every class. No two teachers flow the same

What to ask before you pay

  • Ask whether the studio labels levels or teaches everything as all levels
  • Check the class length. Sixty and seventy five minutes are different practices
  • Ask whether hands on adjustments are offered and how consent is handled

How Vinyasa Yoga compares

Ranges are national guides for each style, not one studio's price.

Vinyasa Yoga questions

Is Vinyasa Yoga good for beginners?

A beginner or slow flow Vinyasa class is a good entry point. A general or level 2 Vinyasa class assumes you already know the basic postures and moves quickly between them, which is hard to follow on a first visit. Check the level on the schedule before booking.

What does Vinyasa actually mean on a timetable?

Postures linked together on the breath, moving more or less continuously for the hour. It is the most common style on a Yoga schedule and the one people usually picture when they say Yoga class.

How is Vinyasa different from Hatha?

Pace and continuity. Hatha sets up one posture at a time, holds it and starts again. Vinyasa flows from one to the next without stopping, which makes it feel more like a workout and gives you less time to think about alignment.

Why compare Vinyasa Yoga here

  • Prices carry a date

Every price on this page shows when a person last checked it. Stale is stated, never hidden.

  • Verification is four states

Listed, claimed, verified and enhanced. We never blur them into one green tick.

  • Equipment aware

Class size is capped by machine count, which is why the apparatus in the room is listed, not just the class name.

  • Position is never sold

Order is verification, freshness and rating. No studio can buy its way up this list.
