Mat Pilates works through the original floor sequence using your own body weight, sometimes with a ring, a small ball or light weights. Class sizes are larger than Reformer because the room is not limited by machines, which is also why it is usually the cheapest class on the schedule.

Should I start with mat or Reformer Pilates?

Start with whichever your nearest studio teaches well. Mat is cheaper and needs no equipment, so it is the lower risk first class. Reformer gives more support and feedback, which some beginners find easier. Trying one of each during an intro offer is the honest answer.

Do I need to bring anything to a mat class?
