What Beginner Yoga actually is
A beginner class breaks down individual postures, introduces props and keeps the pace slow enough to ask questions. Studios label these beginner, basics, foundations or level 1. Starting here rather than in a general class is the single biggest predictor of whether someone stays past their first month.
- Postures broken down individually
- Props introduced and explained
- Slower pace with room for questions
- No experience assumed
What Beginner Yoga costs
$15-$28 per class is the national range. Below is what studios on this site actually charge, and when we last checked.
Not enough studios have published a beginner yoga price for us to show a city range yet. A single studio's price is not a range, so we are not going to print one. $15-$28 per class is the national guide.
Is Beginner Yoga right for you?
The honest version. Every class style suits some people and not others, and a directory that pretends otherwise wastes your first class fee.
It suits you if
- Anyone who has never taken a Yoga class
- People who tried a flow class and could not keep up
- Anyone who wants the postures explained rather than demonstrated
Look elsewhere if
- Experienced practitioners looking for intensity
Before you book
What happens in your first class
- 1Postures are taught one at a time, with the shape explained before you try it
- 2Props are used freely and are a tool, not a sign of struggle
- 3Nothing is expected of your flexibility. That is the point of the class
What to ask before you pay
- Look for a beginner course rather than a single drop in where possible
- Ask whether the teacher offers alternatives for every posture
- Check the class size. Twenty five people is not a beginner class

Beginner Yoga questions
What do I need for my first Yoga class?
Comfortable clothing you can move in and water. Studios provide or rent mats, blocks and straps, so you do not need to buy anything before your first class. Arrive ten minutes early to let the teacher know it is your first time.
How many classes before I stop feeling lost?
Three or four is when the common postures stop needing a translation and you can follow without watching the person next to you. That is worth knowing before your first class, because one class on its own tells you very little.
Is it rude to take a break during class?
No, and every teacher will say the same. Sitting back for a minute is expected, and a good instructor notices and treats it as sensible rather than as giving up. Nobody in the room is watching you as closely as you think.
Why compare Beginner Yoga here
Prices carry a date
Every price on this page shows when a person last checked it. Stale is stated, never hidden.
Verification is four states
Listed, claimed, verified and enhanced. We never blur them into one green tick.
Equipment aware
Class size is capped by machine count, which is why the apparatus in the room is listed, not just the class name.
Position is never sold
Order is verification, freshness and rating. No studio can buy its way up this list.
