About Center Pilates
Center Pilates is Nancy Hughes' studio at 313 Genesee Street in Buffalo, and it is as much a dance space as a Pilates one. The Pilates side runs Intro to Reformer, an Athletic Reformer class, mat classes and Group Equipment sessions built around the Oov, a curved balance tool most studios do not own. The dance side runs a contemporary series, Graham technique workshops and beginner adult ballet.
Sessions come as private, semi private and quartet as well as group, which is a wider spread of class sizes than a room this size usually carries. There has also been a Rotational Pilates slot on Saturday mornings, run as 30-minute circuit training.
Your first class is free and it is a one to one with a teacher rather than a group drop in. That is the right way round here, because both the reformer and the Oov need introducing before they make sense in a class.
The building has parking, showers and a gender neutral restroom, and it is close to public transit. Booking goes through Center Mouvement, which is also where the rates live, so this profile carries no published price.

View all FAQsWhat does the first session cost?
Nothing. Center Pilates gives a complimentary first class, and it is a one to one session with a teacher rather than a group drop in.
Does the studio teach dance too?
Yes. Contemporary Dance runs as a Tuesday series, plus Graham classes and a Beginner Adult Ballet. A single dance class is $20.

$32 for a Group Equipment and OOV class, or $180 for a 6-pack. A private is $200, which is at the top end.
What Pilates classes are on the list?
Group Equipment and OOV, Intro to Reformer, a Mat Class with Oov, an Athletic Reformer Class, and a Legacy Clients session.
Do I need my own mat?
No. Bring your own or borrow one at no cost, though a mat towel is required if you use theirs.
What facilities are there?
Showers and a gender-neutral restroom, with parking available and public transit close by.
Why is Thursday only an hour?
The published Thursday window runs 11:30am to 12:30pm, a single hour. Every other weekday is far longer, so it looks like a one class day.
What does the rest of the week look like?
Tuesday opens earliest at 6am and runs to 7pm. Monday goes latest, 7am to 7:30pm. Wednesday is 7am to 6:30pm and Friday 7am to 5pm. Saturday is a morning, 7:30am to 12pm, and Sunday is closed. Reservations are recommended because the popular classes fill, and booking goes through Center Mouvement.
