View all FAQsIs Pilates Coven in the East Village or the Lower East Side?
Two neighborhood labels circulate for this studio: East Village and Lower East Side of Manhattan. The street address settles it either way: 114 Suffolk St, New York, NY 10002.
Which Pilates Coven class suits a first-time reformer user?
Book The Coven 101. It is aimed at first-time reformer users and beginners, with a moderate pace and small class sizes. The Coven Classic is open level but faster and harder than a beginner class, and The POWERHOUSE or Light as a Feather on the jump board are better once you know the machine.
What happens if I turn up after class has started?
You will not be let in. Pilates Coven has no grace period, so target 10-15 minutes early.
Is the Suffolk Street entrance step-free?
No. It is a sub-level storefront with four steps down, but the studio is ADA friendly and can put out a wheelchair ramp if you call (332) 208-2329 ahead of time.
Does Pilates Coven publish its class prices?
No current rate is published. One old figure circulates, around $20 per class in October 2022, which is far too old to plan around, so phone (332) 208-2329 and ask what a class costs now.
Why does Thursday break in the middle of the day?
Thursday runs in two blocks: mornings from 7am through 1:45pm, then an afternoon stretch that finishes at 7:45pm. Monday and Tuesday split the same way, while Wednesday and Friday stay open straight through to 8:45pm. Weekend hours are shorter, 9:30am to 4:15pm on Saturday and 9:30am to 5:15pm on Sunday.
How do I get to the studio without a car?
It is one block from the F, J, M and Z subway lines, and the M21, M9, M15, M14A-SBS and B39 bus stops are a short walk. City Bike docks sit less than four blocks away, closest at Suffolk St and Stanton and at Rivington St and Ridge St. If you do drive, there is a paid parking lot on Essex Street and Delancy, two blocks from the door.
Who owns Pilates Coven and how do instructors teach?
It is woman-owned, Hispanic/Latinx-owned and LGBTQ-owned, opened by an instructor who came from Avea Pilates. Teachers mix contemporary and classical work, some adding functional fitness or a Pilates-Yoga blend.
