Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs
Are there group classes here?

No. This is a private and duet studio, so you are either one to one or training with one other person you brought yourself. Duets are arranged by mutual agreement and both people pay a shared rate.

What does Romana's certified mean?

It means the instructors trained in the lineage that runs from Joseph Pilates through Romana Kryzanowska, and they teach the method unmodified rather than as a contemporary reinterpretation of it. In practice that shows up as a fixed order of exercises, a particular vocabulary of cues, and less improvisation than you would meet at a studio that describes itself as contemporary. Whether that suits you is a matter of taste rather than quality.

What should I not wear?

Anything with zippers, buttons or metal detailing. Those catch in the springs, which is a maintenance problem for the studio and a safety one for you. Bring clean indoor footwear as well.

What happens in a first session?

An assessment rather than a workout. The instructor goes through your history, any injuries and your range of motion, then works out where to start you. If you have never done Pilates, that is the point of it, and clients regularly begin from nothing.

Can I pay with an HSA or FSA card?

Often, yes. The studio does not bill insurance directly and makes no medical claim, but clients do use health savings and flexible spending cards. Check with your plan administrator, not the studio.

What if I am late?

The session may be cut short and the full fee still applies.

How much notice do I need to cancel?

Eight hours, and inside that the session is charged in full. An instructor has blocked the hour for you alone.

How wide are the hours?

8am to 4pm Monday through Thursday, 8am to 3pm Friday, closed Saturday, and 8am to 2pm on Sunday. A Sunday open studio with Saturday closed is the reverse of the usual pattern.
