View all FAQsWhat meets at 811 S 6th St, and what stays on Fitzwater?
All mat classes plus private and duet sessions happen at 811 S 6th St, and signs inside point you to the right room. Small group reformer classes stay on Fitzwater Street, at 501. The Balance Room calls itself a neighborhood studio, since many students live within a 10-minute walk.
What apparatus do private sessions at The Balance Room use?
Private sessions bring out the full array: reformer, Cadillac, ladder barrel, Wunda chair and small props. Group equipment classes stick to the reformer and TRX.
Is the $100.00 mat pack at The Balance Room worth buying?
Yes, if you will use all 5 mat classes: $100.00 versus $25.00 apiece saves a whole class.
Where do new clients use the $28.00 first reformer class?
Group reformer classes meet on Fitzwater Street, at 501, so the intro happens there. Once you are past it, equipment classes are $43.00 each, or $190.00 for a package of 5.
Should I bring a water bottle to The Balance Room?
Yes. The studio avoids single-use items, so there are no disposable bottles or cups, just a filtered water cooler. Mats and equipment are supplied.
Is The Balance Room a good place to start Pilates from scratch?
Yes. Mat classes are taught to an all-level audience and groups cap at eight students. For the reformer, pick the foundational class on a Tuesday at 5:30pm or a Sunday at 11am.
Can private and duet sessions be booked on Mindbody?
No. Mindbody, on the website or the iOS and Android app, handles group classes only. Private and duet sessions are requested through the form on the Private Sessions page.
Who teaches at The Balance Room, and is there teacher training?
Mari, the founder, has completed Balanced Body's Mat I and Mat II, retook her mat certification, and finished a 450-hour equipment program at Drexel Pilates. She also holds TRX trainer certification and facilitates Movement for Trauma at Level I. Each instructor's Mindbody profile shows their own training, the studio runs a teacher training programme, and Philadelphia Magazine voted The Balance Room the best Pilates studio in the city in 2025.
