Frequently Asked Questions
View all FAQsDo I pay for mat Pilates at the Leach Center?
Not as a current FSU student or Campus Recreation member, since group fitness classes are free for both. Faculty and staff pay approximately $35 a month, alumni around $45, and a day pass is $10.
Is there really an $80 first class at the Leach Center?
Treat that $80 figure as unconfirmed. It clashes with free group fitness for students and a $10 day pass, so call (850) 644-0548 in Tallahassee.
When can I reserve a place in a Leach Center Pilates class?
Registration opens 25 hours before class time, in the FSU Rec app (also called the DSE Rec Center app) or on the Rec Connect web portal.
What if I sign up and cannot make it?
Cancel an hour or more ahead, or the Leach Center adds a small fee.
Is the Leach Center on Varsity Drive or Varsity Way?
Both versions circulate: 118 Varsity Dr with zip 32304, and 118 Varsity Way with zip 32306. Students park at no additional cost in one of the six parking garages on campus.
What else is inside the Leach Center besides the class rooms?
A lot. The 120,000 square foot facility has nearly 100 cardiovascular machines, over 6,500 lbs of dumbbells running from 3 to 120 pounds, and over 60 plate-loaded machines and benches. Add three regulation-size basketball courts, four racquetball and squash courts, a 1/10 mile indoor track, an indoor pool with 16 lanes, two whirlpools and a sauna. Mat Pilates is one small corner of all that.
What happens when a Leach Center class is already full?
Join the waitlist and you get an email if a spot opens. Showing up anyway often works too, because some registered people skip.
Which other group classes share the Leach Center schedule?
Barre burn, cardio dance, vinyasa and power yoga, total body sculpt, Zumba, Hip-Hop Fitness and Spinning, and every one of them draws first-timers regularly.
Why does the Leach Center show closed all week?
Our hours record marks every day closed, which is missing data rather than a real closure of a Tallahassee campus gym. Call (850) 644-0548 for current opening times.
