Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs
How many people are in a class?

Four. That is the smallest group in this directory alongside one other studio, and it is the reason the 12 hour cancellation policy is enforced strictly rather than loosely. One person cancelling late is a quarter of the room.

What can a first timer buy?

$125 for five beginner classes, and there is a separate new client apparatus intro that puts you on the Reformer, Tower and Chair rather than just one machine.

Can I train at home?

Yes. Alongside one to one and semi private sessions at the studio, Blue Heron runs virtual sessions and sessions in your own home, which very few studios offer.

Is the teaching classical or contemporary?

Both. The teachers came to Pilates at different points and for different reasons, so a class carries classical repertoire and contemporary work in the same hour, and no two sessions are identical.

Is there anything for athletes?

Yes, athlete focused sessions run as their own format alongside the mat, reformer and private training.

What should I bring to a first class?

Grip socks and water, and tell the teacher about any limitation your doctor has set before you start rather than during.

When is the studio open?

In split blocks most days. Tuesday runs a morning to 9am and an evening to 7:30pm, Thursday a morning to 11am and an afternoon to 6:30pm, Friday to 11am and then to 7pm. Monday is one long block from 9am to 8pm and Saturday runs 8am to 3pm.

Why the blue heron?

The studio says the bird stands for patience, perseverance and wisdom in a number of cultures, which is what it is aiming at in the practice.
